- Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your personal care products? I use Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume Shampoo, which was rated a “5” – “moderate hazard.” I also use Dove deodorant rated a “3” – “moderate hazard.” I am not at all surprised with the toxicity.
- Did you decide to change any of your consumer behaviors based on your findings? Knowing the information about these products did not change my consumer behaviors. These types of products are ubiquitous, convenient and cheap.
- Should everyone know about this risks and why don’t they? In order to make an informed decision, it is a consumer’s right to know the composition and the risks associated with a product.

Hi Allyssa,
ReplyDeleteYou make a great third point in your response for this topic. While the products they have these days all have user risk that ranges from allergenic to absorption toxicity, it should be the responsibility of the companies to be transparent on the risks associated with products.
Thanks for your posting! I also agree that consumers should have the right to know about a product's toxicity level. A portion of our population are unaware about the risks of certain products, but it can be our responsibility as healthcare professionals to educate our patient population re: toxic risks of certain products.
